Raiders don't come to play in 34-14 loss to Dolphins
It started with a three and out for the Raider offense. Then another. Then another. Miami jumped to a 13-0 halftime lead. The rest of the ballgame was an afterthought. Reggie Bush ran for 100 yards and a touchdown as the Raiders defense just couldn't make a stop in a 34-14 defeat to the Dolphins on Sunday. With the Denver Broncos beating the Minnesota Vikings, the Raiders and Denver are now tied for first in what will be a wild finish to the AFC west.
Really not many bright spots in the first half until Matt Moore hit Davone Best for a 12 yard touchdown on a third and eight play. Third down defense was a huge problem for the Raiders as the Dolphins finished 8-14 on third down. Reggie Bush opened the third quarter with a touchdown. He, along with Daniel Thomas and others combined for 209 yards on 44 carries for Miami. Miami also had a rushing touchdown from Moore and an interception touchdown by Kevin Burnett in a 21 point Miami third.
The Raider offense couldn't muster much as Miami grounded Michael Bush to a tune of ten carries for 18 yards. Carson Palmer went 20/41 for 273 Yards and two fourth quarter touchdown passes to TJ Houshmandzadeh and Darius Heyward-Bey. Chaz Schillenz had six catches for 89 yards. The Raiders were stopped for 46 yards of rushing offense while going 2-11 on third down a week after they went 3-15 in the same stat against the Chicago Bears,
The Dolphins had 209 yards rushing including Thomas' 73 yards on 13 carries. Anthony Fasano had four catches for 66 yards as Matt Moore was a productive 13/25 for 162 yards and a touchdown.
The loss for the Raiders showed allot of things. One big problem, which it was early in the year, Hue Jackson did not have his team ready to play against a sub .500 team. The issues on defense still need to be addressed as the Dolphins run game ran the Raider defense over. Rolando McClain had 8 tackles in the ballgame after being arrested on gun charges on Thursday.
The Raiders will travel once again cross country to Green Bay. Where they will meet the defending World Champion Green Bay Packers in what could be a must win game for the Raiders. Hue Jackson better have his team ready to play unlike this ballgame!
